SEMPORNA: The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry is ready to provide counselling to families affected by the helicopter crash in Long Lellang, Ulu Baram, Sarawak.
Its minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said the ministry was prepared to offer counselling support if needed, particularly in situations involving loss of life and grieving families.
“We are ready in terms of counselling. When we want to provide counselling, we ourselves have to be prepared with what we are going to say.
“This is not something easy. It involves lives and families who are in a state of deep grief and sadness,” she said here on Thursday (Sept 10).
Nancy was speaking after launching the Semporna Zero Tolerance for Violence programme organised by the ministry through the Women’s Development Department.
She said counsellors handling such situations needed to genuinely understand the circumstances and emotions faced by affected families.
“Those providing counselling need to be people who truly understand the situation. We are prepared for this,” she said.
The Layang-Layang Aerospace helicopter, carrying four Sarawak Health Department personnel and a pilot, was reported to have crashed while attempting an emergency landing at the Long Lellang airport in Ulu Baram on Tuesday (Sept 8).
