KOTA KINABALU: Several hotel and accommodation operators here were issued compounds and given stern warnings over fire alarm systems.
State Fire and Rescue Department director Mohd Pisar Aziz said a total of 76 premises were inspected during a statewide operation, Ops Trigger, on Thursday to check on fire alarm systems.
He added that this resulted in 34 compounds and warnings issued to the operators.
He said a fire warning alarm must be kept functional and activated at all times.
“The alarm system acts as the first alert when a fire breaks out.
“It allows time for people to escape the premises,” said Mohd Pisar.
He said operators should not use excuses such as technical issues to cover up their negligence.
While the total compound issued amounted to RM4,600, he said the goal was to educate and remind hotel and accommodation operators of the importance of taking fire safety seriously.
