PAS has a PM candidate in mind, says Hadi

PETALING JAYA: PAS has identified a prime minister candidate for the 16th General Election but it is not the right time to reveal the name, says party president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang.

He said the final decision would only be made after considering the seat majority among parties contesting in GE16.

"It is not time. We don’t know yet who will win many seats or who will win just a few," Sinar Harian quoted him as saying on Friday (Sept 4) during the 72nd PAS annual muktamar at Pengkalan Chepa in Kelantan.

Hadi had been asked if PAS would propose a candidate for prime minister from the party, following its agenda to unite the Muslim community as stressed in his policy speech.

It was reported that there were calls for PAS to play a role as the main initiator in uniting the community and plan to have someone take up the post.

Kedah PAS Youth chief Ilyas Ahmad had said the party should not give way to others as it had qualified candidates.

He said it was time for PAS to step up as a main power in federal leadership.
