KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded statements from four people over Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim’s claim that he was forced to sign a proclamation document, with the investigation paper referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC).
The paper was submitted to the AGC on Sept 29, and police are awaiting further instructions, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said in a written parliamentary reply on Wednesday (Oct 21).
“Any further action and investigation by the police are subject to the AGC’s examination and instructions,” he said.
Saifuddin was responding to Rasah MP Cha Kee Chin, who asked for the latest status of investigations into the police report lodged by Ismail on Sept 8.
Ismail lodged the report after claiming that he had signed the Instrument of Proclamation unwillingly and under duress.
The document was linked to a proclamation concerning the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.
The Home Ministry gave an assurance that police would conduct the investigation professionally, transparently and in accordance with the law, without favouring any party.
The case forms part of a wider dispute over the April 19 proclamation, in which four Undang announced the removal of Tuanku Muhriz and proclaimed Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Jaafar as the 12th Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
On Oct 15, the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang and its secretary filed an application for leave to initiate committal proceedings against Ismail, 10 former state executive councillors and six others over the dispute.
The application alleges that they acted in breach of an interim injunction granted by the Seremban High Court on June 5. Case management is fixed for Nov 17.
