PETALING JAYA: The air quality in two districts in Sarawak is at very unhealthy levels, as of 4pm Saturday (Aug 29), according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
The area with the highest API reading is Sri Aman at 229 followed by IPD Serian (228).
Meanwhile, 29 other monitoring stations nationwide recorded unhealthy API readings. In Sarawak, the affected areas are Sarikei (194), Samarahan (185), Kuching (180), Mukah (171), Sibu (166), Bintulu (156), Kapit (156), and Samalaju (149).
In the peninsular, the monitoring station in Sungai Petani, Kedah, recorded the highest API reading at 161, followed by Cheras, Kuala Lumpur at 160, and Minden, Penang, at 158.
Other areas in Kedah with unhealthy API readings are Langkawi (152), Alor Setar (150) and Kulim Hi-Tech at 103.
In Penang, Sebarang Perai (157) and Sebarang Jaya (156) also recorded unhealthy API levels.
Meanwhile, in Perak, areas recording unhealthy API readings include Taiping (158), Tanjung Malim (156), and Tasek Ipoh (152).
In Selangor, the affected areas are Shah Alam (157), Johan Setia (152), Petaling Jaya (152), Kuala Selangor (121) and Klang (120). In Kuala Lumpur, the monitoring station at Batu Muda recorded an API of 1156 and in Putrajaya, the level was at 155.
In Negri Sembilan, two locations recorded unhealthy API readings - Nilai (154) and Seremban (151) - while in Johor, only Segamat (132) recorded an unhealthy API reading.
Meanwhile, the remaining 36 monitoring stations nationwide recorded moderate API readings, with none recording a good API reading.
API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
API readings of between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.
