JOHOR BARU: A total of 1,529 policemen will be deployed across Johor to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow during the National Day celebrations.
Johor police chief Datuk Comm Ab Rahaman Arsad said the personnel, including 168 officers, would be deployed in stages and shifts at strategic locations and areas expected to draw large crowds from Aug 30 until Sept 1.
He said the operation, dubbed Op Ambang Merdeka 2026, was aimed at preventing criminal activities, maintaining public order and ensuring smooth traffic throughout the celebrations in the state.
“Priority will be given to areas hosting Merdeka Eve celebrations, town centres, public gathering spots, recreational areas, shopping centres and major roads,” he said here on Saturday (Aug 29).
Comm Ab Rahaman added police would also focus on activities that could threaten public safety and order, including illegal racing, dangerous motorcycle riding, reckless driving, drug abuse, excessive alcohol consumption and traffic offences.
He advised the public to celebrate Merdeka Eve in an orderly, courteous and responsible manner while complying with all safety instructions issued by the authorities.
Road users were also advised to plan their journeys early, obey traffic regulations and prioritise safety by avoiding reckless or aggressive driving, he said.
Comm Ab Rahaman also urged those attending celebrations to look after their personal and family safety, keep an eye on their children and refrain from bringing items or objects that could pose a safety threat.
He said Johor police would take firm action against anyone committing offences or disrupting public order, while wishing Malaysians a safe and harmonious 69th National Day celebration.
