KUALA LUMPUR: Any political negotiation must take into account potential benefits and drawbacks before an agreement is reached, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Barisan Nasional chairman said discussions must be conducted with honesty and sincerity, while all parties involved must honour any commitments made.
"Any negotiations must consider the benefits and the potential harm," he told reporters after officiating the closing ceremony of a charity ride event on Friday (Aug 21).
He was asked to comment on whether Barisan has finalised its political partner for the Melaka state elections.
Ahmad Zahid said Melaka Barisan and Umno chief Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh would lead negotiations at state level before it is brought to national level for further refinement.
"There is no single formula suitable for all states," he said.
Ahmad Zahid also said honesty, sincerity and keeping promises were essential in any political agreement.
Asked about relations between Barisan and Pakatan Harapan at national level, he said cooperation remained important to ensure political stability and effective governance.
"This includes Cabinet meetings, coordination between ministries and a whole-of-government approach, all for the benefit of the country and to maintain political stability," he said.
