JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested five people and opened three investigation papers over separate incidents involving the national and Johor state flags being flown upside down.
Johor deputy police chief Deputy Comm Hoo Chuan Huat said police had received three reports so far, involving incidents in Kulai, Iskandar Puteri and Pelangi Indah.
“We have arrested two people in connection with the case in Kulai and two in Johor Baru Selatan, while one another was arrested in Iskandar Puteri.
“Once investigations are completed, we will refer the investigation papers to the Attorney-General’s Chambers for further action,” he said, adding that those nabbed were aged between 25 and 56.

DCP Hoo urged the public, including those employing foreign workers, to be vigilant when displaying the national flag.
“It is good that many want to show their love for the country, but it is important to remain alert and ensure the national flag is displayed correctly.
“Business owners with foreign workers should also show them the correct way to display our flags or, at the very least, have them send a photo of the flag to a local supervisor for checking,” he said at the Johor police headquarters here yesterday.
In a statement, Iskandar Puteri acting OCPD Supt Saifullah Jaya @ Yahya said a 56-year-old local man had been arrested over an incident in which the Jalur Gemilang and Johor flag were displayed upside down.
“Checks found that three flagpoles had been erected in front of the factory, with one flying an upside-down Johor flag and another an upside-down Jalur Gemilang.
“We have arrested a local man, who is a supervisor at the factory, and seized the two flags to assist in the investigation,” he said.
