SUNGAI PETANI: Police have advised motorcyclists in convoys abroad, especially in neighbouring countries, to comply with local laws to avoid action by authorities.
Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah said organisers must ensure that all participants and vehicles meet legal requirements before any convoy begins.
"When riding abroad, our utmost priority must be adhering to local laws. I believe their traffic laws do not differ significantly from ours... in the context of motorcycling, riders must hold a valid driving licence, active road tax, and ensure vehicle modification parts meet set specifications," he said.
He told reporters this after flagging off the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Charity Ride convoy, organised with the Ipoh Superbikes Club (ISBC) in conjunction with the 219th Police Day and 69th Merdeka Eve celebrations at the Kuala Muda District Police Headquarters (IPD) here Tuesday (Aug 18).
He was asked to comment on a recent viral social media video of a Malaysian motorcycle convoy that was allegedly fined by Thai authorities for traffic offences.
Adzli also reminded motorcycle convoy organisers to consult authorities before holding events.
"When an application to hold a convoy is submitted, we call organisers for a discussion on safety and route planning to prevent incidents," he said. - Bernama
