KUALA LUMPUR: Six Naval Special Warfare Forces (Paskal) personnel were found safe after drifting at sea when they missed their designated landing site during a free-fall parachuting exercise in the South China Sea on Wednesday (Aug 13).
In a statement on Thursday, the Royal Malaysian Navy said all six personnel were recovered by a navy vessel after being found floating in the waters.
It said sudden weather changes had severely affected the personnel’s visibility, causing them to miss the intended landing site.
"This proves the effectiveness of Paskal's continuous and realistic training in preparing personnel to face unforeseen circumstances.
"Beyond combat skills, this intensive training has proven to foster high resilience, discipline and survival capabilities in extreme situations, in line with the motto ‘Sentiasa yang Terbaik’ (Always the Best),” it said.
The navy said it remained committed to balancing combat readiness with personnel safety to ensure the sovereignty of the nation’s waters remained safeguarded at all times. — Bernama
