KUALA LUMPUR: Six Navy special forces (Paskal) personnel were safely located and rescued by Navy vessels after drifting in the South China Sea during a free-fall parachute training exercise.
The Navy said the personnel strayed from their designated landing site after a sudden change in weather conditions severely affected visibility during the drill.
All six commandos were subsequently recovered unharmed by a Navy vessel operating in the area.
"The incident demonstrated the effectiveness of Paskal's continuous and realistic training in preparing its personnel to deal with unforeseen situations.
"Intensive training not only strengthened combat skills but also developed resilience, discipline and survival capabilities in extreme conditions. This is in line with the Paskal motto, 'Sentiasa Yang Terbaik' (Always the Best)," the Navy said in a statement on its official Facebook page.
The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to balancing combat readiness with personnel safety to ensure the security and sovereignty of the country's waters remain protected.
