SAR ops for missing boy feared drowned in Subang enters second day

SUBANG JAYA: The search for a seven-year-old Indonesian boy who fell into a river while playing with his friends entered its second day on Tuesday (Aug 11), with rescuers expanding the search area to more than 8km downstream.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the search was divided into three sectors, with Sector A covering 300m, Sector B covering 2km and Sector C extending beyond 8km towards Sri Muda and Sungai Kandis.

“The search is being conducted using three boats and the surface search method, taking into account the strong current.

“As of 9.25am, personnel were conducting a surface search at the second checkpoint along the route towards Puchong using a boat,” he said in a statement today.

Ashrul Riezal said the operation faced several challenges, including the strong current and the possibility of rain upstream, which could cause the river to become more turbulent.

“There are also several areas with natural rapids where boats cannot pass through, requiring them to be transported by trailer before the search can continue,” he said.

The operation involves nine personnel from the Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Station, with assistance from the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) from the Shah Alam and Port Klang stations.

Two boats, a Fire Rescue Tender and a pick-up truck are being used in the search.

The boy was reported missing after he fell into the river at about 6.30pm on Monday (Aug 10) while playing with his friends near a supermarket in Persiaran Subang Indah.
