PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional's victory in Negri Sembilan is not just a form of recognition but a mandate to serve the rakyat with integrity and sincerity, says its secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir (pic).
He said the coalition's elected representatives must treat the win as a major responsibility to serve all the people of Negri Sembilan, regardless of race, religion or background.
"Barisan views this victory with gratitude and humility.
"The trust given by the people will be translated through a responsible, people-oriented administration based on the principles of stability and progress," he said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 2).
Zambry said Barisan would continue to uphold moderate politics, strengthen racial unity, practise good governance and work with all parties to ensure Negri Sembilan remains stable, progressive, inclusive and prosperous for current and future generations.
He also thanked voters across all communities for their support in Barisan and expressed appreciation to the coalition's leadership, component parties, election machinery, volunteers and those involved in the state polls.
His statement came after Barisan and Perikatan Nasional secured a majority of the seats in the Negri Sembilan state polls, which concluded on Saturday (Aug 1).
The Election Commission's official results showed Barisan won 18 seats, with Umno securing 16 and MCA two, while Perikatan won seven seats, comprising four won by PAS and three by Wawasan.
Pakatan Harapan won 11 seats, with DAP taking nine and PKR the remaining two.
Based on the results, Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Asyraf Wajdi reportedly said Barisan was confident of forming the Negri Sembilan state government after securing a majority in the 36-seat assembly.
