New Negri MB to be sworn in at 10.15am today

SEREMBAN: The new Negri Sembilan Mentri Besar will be sworn in on Sunday (Aug 2) morning at the Istana Besar in Seri Menanti.

The state secretary's office in a statement said the ceremony will take place before the Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir at 10.15am.

Late on Saturday (Aug 1) night, Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coalition had submitted three nominees for the post of Mentri Besar to Tuanku Muhriz.

He said the ruler holds absolute discretion in appointing the new Mentri Besar from the submitted list.

"I have just concluded an audience with the state ruler during which we held an extensive discussion.

"During the audience, I personally presented an official letter containing the three names for the Mentri Besar post," he told reporters when met outside Istana Hinggap here.

All three nominees, he said, were from Barisan.

Asked why he sought an audience so late into the day, Ahmad Zahid said he received an order from the palace to do so.

Ahmad Zahid said he had also told Tuanku Muhriz that Barisan won 18 seats in the state election while its partner Perikatan Nasional bagged seven.

"Base on this, I have received the state ruler's consent to set up a new government," he said.

Asked if former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun should vacate the official residence immediately, Ahmad Zahid said there was no urgency for this.

"He should be given some time to do so.

"The new MB may be sworn in soon but we must remember they (Aminuddin) are also our friends and we must have a sense of humanity and respect for them," he added.
