SEREMBAN: Voter turnout in the Negri Sembilan polls is roughly on par with the last state election, says Pakatan Harapan’s Anthony Loke.
Loke, who is defending the Chennah state seat, made the remarks after casting his ballot at a polling station in Mambau on Saturday (Aug 1).
“From the reports I have received, the turnout is more or less the same as the last state election, with some areas higher and some seeing a stronger morning showing than before,” he added.
He said this was a healthy sign as voters were expected to come out and fulfil their responsibility, and he hoped turnout would climb to 73% or higher.
“Participation in our democratic system needs to be as broad as possible. Whatever the outcome, it will reflect the decision of the majority in our state,” he said.
Asked about pre-election surveys said to be unfavourable to some parties, Loke said he would not comment on any of them as every side had its own studies.
“A survey is just a survey. In the end, what matters most is the decision made by the people, not the surveys. That is what we are watching and waiting for,” he said.
