PETALING JAYA: A man who was kidnapped for a RM7mil ransom was rescued by police in less than 48 hours in a special operation, say the police.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk M. Kumar (pic) said the operation also led to the arrest of six suspects.
He said those arrested comprised five local men and one local woman, aged between 30 and 46.
“At about 1.30am Friday, police received a report from a woman stating that her husband had been kidnapped and that the suspects were demanding a RM7mil ransom.
“Following the report, a special operation was launched and the victim was rescued at about 1am today from a residential unit in Shah Alam,” he said.
Comm Kumar said further checks on the suspects led to the seizure of various types of drugs, mobile phones and a number of vehicles believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 for kidnapping for ransom, which carries a jail term of between 30 and 40 years, as well as whipping, upon conviction.
“Investigations are also being conducted under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 against all those arrested.
“The court has also granted a 10-day remand order against all the suspects under Section 12 of the Kidnapping Act 1961,” he said.
Comm Kumar said investigations are ongoing to determine the involvement of other individuals, establish the motive behind the kidnapping and identify any criminal network believed to be linked to the case.
He urged members of the public to continue providing information to the police, and gave assurances that investigations would be carried out thoroughly, transparently and without compromise.
