SEREMBAN: Former Melaka deputy police chief Datuk Razali Abu Samah (pic) may be a political novice. But he is relishing the opportunity to take on his two more experienced opponents for the Sikamat seat.
Razali, who will be contesting under the Perikatan Nasional ticket, said although he respects his opponents who are a lot more experienced in politics, he has no reason to fear them.
“My take is that this election is not going to be decided by who you are but what ideas you are able to bring to the table.
“Listen intently to the people. Don’t promise the moon and the stars but tell them how you will help to solve issues,” said Razali, who retired three years ago.
The Sikamat seat was held for four terms by caretaker Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, who will be contesting in Linggi this time around.
Razali, who was born in Jelebu, will be involved in a three-way fight against Nor Azman Mohamad from Pakatan Harapan and Bersatu information chief Datuk Tun Faisal Ismail Aziz.
He said the support he received from his friends was what motivated him to contest.
“Sikamat may have been under another party since 2008 but with the support from the PAS and Umno election machinery, I am confident we can win it.”
When asked about his strategy to win the seat, Razali kept his cards close to his chest.
Drawing from his background in law enforcement, Razali said that strategy is a vital weapon that must remain strictly confidential.
He added that his previous role managing a state police contingent as the deputy CPO provided him with extensive personnel management experience, which he believes will be a valuable asset in his political career.
