SEREMBAN: Political parties and their supporters must strictly obey the law throughout the upcoming Negri Sembilan state election or face the consequences, says state police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Alzafny Ahmad.

He issued the reminder following a meeting with political party representatives here, where they were briefed on security protocols, legal compliance and party responsibilities during the period that begins from nomination this Saturday until the final election results are announced.

“We want the polls to be carried out in a peaceful, safe and orderly manner,” DCP Alzafny said.

“As such, all parties are urged to constantly comply with the law and cooperate in maintaining public order throughout the election process,” he told reporters at the state police contingent here yesterday.

DCP Alzafny urged political parties and candidates to control their supporters and avoid provocations, unauthorised processions, hate speech, or any statements that could disrupt social harmony.

“There should be no actions or statements that touch on racial, religious and royal institution sensitivities, whether through political talks (ceramah), campaign materials, media statements, or social media,” he said.

On polling day, all parties must extend their full cooperation to the Election Commission and police personnel and refrain from engaging in any activity that could disrupt the smooth voting process or cause commotion at polling centres.

“After the results are announced, everyone should accept the outcome with maturity and use legal channels if they have any objections, without taking any action that could jeopardise public peace,” DCP Alzafny added.

The police, he said, have made thorough preparations, including personnel deployment, traffic control, crime prevention patrols, intelligence gathering and monitoring to ensure security is maintained throughout the election.

Separately, DCP Alzafny said several roads near nomination centres in all eight districts in the state will be closed from 7am to 2pm on Saturday to allow the process to be carried out smoothly.

He also advised motorists to plan their trips accordingly.
