A MAN in Tamil Nadu, India, set his wife and two daughters on fire after they refused to give him money, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Selvaraj, 65, who is a labourer, lived with wife 69-year-old Vijayaletchumi and their two daughters in Thanjavur.

Their eldest daughter Menaka, 38, had moved back home after separating from her husband while the younger daughter Mavunika, 25, was unmarried.

Selvaraj had a habit of asking his wife for money and she would usually give in.

However, she stopped doing so for two months and a few days prior, she again refused him.

This led to a quarrel, with the two daughters supporting their mother, further infuriating him.

That night as they slept, Selvaraj doused all three women with petrol, set them alight and fled.

Neighbours, who came to their aid after hearing their screams, managed to put out the fire and rushed all three to hospital. The women suffered severe burns.

Selvaraj was soon arrested and is facing several charges.
