BUTTERWORTH: Authorities issued 52 summonses for various traffic offences during an integrated enforcement operation targeting commercial vehicles at the Sungai Dua Toll Plaza (southbound) on Thursday (Oct 30).

Penang police chief Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng said 151 individuals and 141 vehicles were inspected during the operation, conducted from 9 am to 11 am, while a man was arrested for a suspected offence under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

"Police issued 24 summonses for various traffic offences, while the Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued another 28, along with 10 prohibition-of-use notices requiring the vehicles concerned to undergo further inspection.

"The Environment Department conducted emissions tests on six commercial vehicles, resulting in the issuance of a notice under Section 48A of the Environmental Quality Act 1974," he said in a statement Thursday night.

Lim said the integrated operation aimed to strengthen enforcement against overloading and other traffic offences involving commercial vehicles.

He said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to ensure commercial vehicle operators and drivers complied with existing laws and regulations to safeguard all road users. – Bernama
