MELAKA: Bersatu regards its clashes with Pakatan Harapan in four of the eight state seats it is contesting in the Melaka polls as healthy competition, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Bersatu secretary-general said each party had its own considerations in deciding which seats to contest, including their chances of winning.
"Every party has its own considerations. We have ours and the other parties have theirs.
"Bersatu has decided to defend its two seats, Sungai Udang and Bemban, while focusing on other areas with the potential to be won," he said.
He was speaking after announcing the party's candidates for the polls at its main operations room at Baitul Tariq in Klebang here on Thursday (Oct 29).
The four seats where Bersatu will go head-to-head with Pakatan are Klebang, which PKR is contesting, as well as Gadek, Ayer Keroh and Pengkalan Batu, which will be contested by DAP.
The Election Commission has fixed Nov 14 as polling day.
Pakatan had earlier held talks with like-minded parties, including Bersatu, to forge cooperation under the "PH Plus" initiative.
Asked if the parties could work together after the polls should their candidates in the overlapping seats win, Azmin said they must first compete for the voters' mandate.
"In an election, it is natural that the parties involved will compete.
"But we take the stand that it is healthy competition in a democratic system," he added.
