Husband killed, pregnant wife injured in Sungai Besar two-lorry crash

PETALING JAYA: A husband was killed while his wife, who is seven months pregnant, was injured in a crash involving two lorries on the main road near Kampung Tebuk Marso, Sungai Besar, early Friday (July 17).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 2.49am.

He said a team of six firefighters from the Sungai Besar Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene.

“Preliminary reports found that the accident involved two lorries, one carrying a 36-tonne load of steel and the other transporting a shipping container.

“The female passenger, aged 26, suffered minor injuries and was rescued by members of the public before firefighters arrived.

“The lorry driver, a 21-year-old man, was trapped in the driver’s seat and was found unconscious,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Ashrul Riezal said the driver of the other lorry escaped unhurt.

He added that firefighters then carried out an operation to extricate the trapped victim.

“The driver was successfully extricated at 4.15am but was pronounced dead by Health Ministry personnel. His wife was taken to hospital for treatment,” he said.
