PETALING JAYA: A 14-year-old boy has been arrested in Arau, Perlis after allegedly throwing a rock at a Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) train, causing a window on one of its coaches to shatter.
According to Sinar Harian, the teenager, who is a secondary school student, was arrested on Saturday (Oct 31) during Ops Cantas conducted by the Arau District Criminal Investigation Division and the Arau police station task force.
Arau OCPD Supt Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi said initial investigations found that the suspect had admitted to deliberately throwing a rock at the train while standing near the motorcycle flyover in Kampung Jelempok.
"However, only the suspect threw the rock, while his four friends were not involved and merely witnessed the incident," he said in a statement on Saturday.
Police had earlier received a report about the damaged window of a KTMB coach believed to have been struck while the train was travelling from Arau station towards Alor Setar on Thursday (Oct 29).
The report was lodged at the Arau police station at 12.30pm on Friday (Oct 30).
Supt Ahmad Mohsin said the suspect was arrested at a house in Kampung Guar Sanji.
Police also seized a mobile phone with a SIM card and a rock believed to be linked to the incident.
"The suspect has no previous criminal record and is currently being held at the Kangar police station lock-up to assist with investigations.
"The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code," he said.
