SEREMBAN: Perikatan Nasional’s decision to contest only 11 seats at the Negri Sembilan state polls reflects the coalition’s agreement to a new political alignment, says Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.
This comes after Barisan Nasional announced it would only be contesting 25 seats at the state polls, fuelling speculation of political cooperation between both Barisan and Perikatan.
The Parti Wawasan Negara president said allies are needed for the future, noting the evolution of the national political landscape.
“At one point, only one dominant party led the country but this has since changed.
“It can no longer be led by just one group or coalition.
“Voter maturity has also evolved, with many wanting to see wellbeing, stability and unity,” he said in his speech at Perikatan’s candidate announcement for the state polls here on Thursday (July 16).
He also urged the rakyat to trust in the Perikatan leadership, adding that the coalition was not only fighting for the Malays, Chinese, Indians or others, but for the whole of society.
“We are fighting for Malaysia’s future. I am confident we can achieve victory,” he said.
Nomination day for the Negri Sembilan polls has been set for Saturday (July 18) with polling day on Aug 1.
Barisan is contesting 25 seats at the coming state polls, while Pakatan is contesting all 36 seats.
