SHAH ALAM: Police raids have disrupted the operations of six drug syndicates, leading to the arrest of 14 suspects aged 20 to 39.
Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Shazeli Kahar said arrests in three cases occurred at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), while suspects in the other three cases were detained in Segambut and Sepang.
"Through a total of seven raids, we successfully crippled a syndicate network believed to be active and organised.
"The total value of the drugs seized is estimated at RM31.53mil," he told a press conference at state police contingent headquarters here on Thursday (Sept 10).
The seizures included 135.4kg of suspected compressed marijuana, 117.4kg of suspected MDMA powder, as welll as 22 boxes and 118 vape cartridges.
"Five machines believed to have been used to package drugs were also seized.
"We also seized five vehicles of various makes and models, RM3,879 in cash, four chains and a handbag.
"The total value of the assets seized was RM172,069," he said.
Of the 14 suspects arrested, 11 have been charged under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, he added, while another is still under investigation and two others were released.
"Checks found that only one suspect, a local man, had a criminal record with two priors," he said.
Of nine foreign suspects, five had expired social visit passes.
"Selangor police will continue to intensify enforcement action without compromise against drug trafficking activities," Comm Shazeli said.
He also reminded the public not to be easily deceived by offers to carry luggage or goods belonging to others without knowing their contents.
He added that individuals who agree to carry goods belonging to others risk becoming drug mules.
"Do not be easily deceived by promises of lucrative payments, as such actions can result in very serious legal consequences," he said.
