IPOH: A total of 148 illegal dumping hotspots have been identified here as of June, says Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah.
He said the Ipoh City Council has installed 431 warning signboards at strategic locations to deter illegal dumping and raise public awareness.
“Between January and July this year, the council also issued 711 compound notices for illegal dumping offences, involving total fines of RM184,750.
“MBI has also continued its Free Garbage Bin Distribution Programme for Ipoh residents.
“As of July, a total of 156,291 garbage bins had been distributed in stages since the programme was introduced in 2021,” he said in a statement after attending the “Perak Bersih dan Sihat” (Perak Best 3.0) programme at Pengkalan Tiara near here on Friday (July 17)

He said the programme was part of MBI’s ongoing efforts to curb illegal dumping and enhance cleanliness, public health and the overall well-being of the city’s environment.
He said the programme is one of the initiatives under Local Agenda 21 (LA21).
“Among the activities carried out during the programme were cleaning illegal dumping hotspots, installing awareness signboards, street sweeping, distributing ‘No Littering’ pamphlets, Aedes larvae inspections, fogging operations and various other public cleanliness activities,” he said.
Zamakhshari said Excellent Appreciation Certificates were also presented to field personnel who demonstrated outstanding performance in maintaining the city’s cleanliness.
