Melaka disburses RM11mil to support disabled, bedridden patients

MELAKA: Nearly RM11mil has been channelled by the state government between January and June of this year to ease the financial burden of families caring for bedridden patients and individuals with disabilities, the Melaka Legislative Assembly was told.

Melaka women, family and community development committee chairman Datuk Kalsom Noordin said RM7.9mil had been allocated under the Welfare Department's care assistance scheme for persons with disabilities and bedridden chronic patients.

"As of January 2026, the scheme has benefited 2,856 recipients statewide," she said on Tuesday (July 14).

Kalsom said the state government had also spent RM3.08mil under the Melaka Sayang Rakyat (MeSRa) initiative to support bedridden patients through two targeted assistance programmes.

She said the initiatives comprised the MeSRa adult disposable diaper assistance and the milk assistance schemes, both aimed at reducing the financial strain on families caring for patients requiring long-term support.

"Up to June this year, the state government has spent RM3.08mil, benefiting 3,345 bedridden patients throughout the state," she said.
