Admiralty Jurisdiction Bill referred to special select committee, says Azalina


KUALA LUMPUR: The Admiralty Jurisdiction Bill 2026 which was slated for the first reading on Monday (July 13), has been referred to a Special Select Committee for further fine-tuning.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said tabled a motion to refer the Bill to the committee.

She said the committee will look into aspects such as the scope, structure of and propose changes that are needed for the Bill.

The committee will also be tasked with preparing a report on the matter.

“The committee will comprise 12 MPs including the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) as chair,” she said when tabling the motion.

She added that the committee can also invite legal experts, professional bodies, industry groups, civil society members and other relevant stakeholders to its meetings.
