MELAKA: A motorcyclist and his 11-year-old son were seriously injured in a 10-vehicle collision on the Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin Highway in Cheng.
“The accident involved seven cars, a lorry, a four-wheel-drive vehicle and a Honda Dash motorcycle carrying a father and son,” said Melaka Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Muhammad Zaki Ramat.
He said the 39-year-old motorcyclist suffered a broken leg while his son sustained serious head injuries and required intubation after their motorcycle was struck from behind during the collision, which occurred at about 9pm on Friday.
“Preliminary investigations found that a Toyota Hilux travelling from Malim towards Cheng was believed to have lost control before crashing into several vehicles that had stopped at a traffic light intersection, including the motorcycle carrying the two victims.
“As a result, the motorcyclist suffered a broken leg while the pillion rider sustained head injuries and required intubation.
“The 29-year-old Toyota Hilux driver suffered minor facial injuries,” he said in a statement yesterday, Bernama reported.
Supt Muhammad Zaki said all the injured victims were later taken to Hospital Melaka for treatment.
He said drug and breathalyser tests conducted on the Toyota Hilux driver returned negative results.
However, a blood sample was taken and will be sent to the Melaka Chemistry Department for toxicology analysis.
Supt Muhammad Zaki said all vehicles that were involved in the collision will be sent to the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre in Alor Gajah for further inspections.
The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act.
Supt Muhammad Zaki said dashcam footage of the incident had been obtained and will form part of the investigation.
