IPOH: Police have detained two minors over a spate of car window-breaking incidents in Gerik.
Gerik OCPD Supt Abdul Samad Othman said police arrested the two teenagers, aged 13 and 14, on Saturday (July 11) morning, following eight reports of broken car windows lodged on Friday (July 10) at 238pm.
"The incidents occurred at Taman Sri Temenggor, Taman Meha and Taman Gerik in Gerik.
"The two minors are believed to have been involved in breaking the windows of three vehicles at Taman Sri Temenggor on Friday," he said in a statement.
"In all eight cases, the vehicles suffered damages, with a total loss of about RM10,000.
"Investigations found that rocks and bricks were used to damage the vehicles," he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
Supt Abdul Samad said the two minors have confessed to be involved.
"There are also two others who are still at large.
"Police seized several items, including a motorcycle, helmets and clothing worn during the incidents," he said.
Supt Abdul Samad advised parents and guardians to always monitor the activities and movements of the children under their care.
"This is to prevent them from being involved in criminal activities which can affect their future.
"Parents could also be held legally liable if their children are found guilty of committing a crime, playing truant or disturbing public peace, which included bullying and vandalism.
"This is a consequence of their negligence in taking care of and controlling their children.
"We urge members of the public to channel information to us immediately to assist investigations and prevent these crimes from occurring," he added.
