SIMPANG RENGGAM: First-time voter Wong Wee Xiang, who has been blind since birth, cast his ballot with the assistance of his mother at SJK (C) Tuan Poon on Saturday (July 11).

The 20-year-old Simpang Renggam resident arrived at the polling centre at about 9.15am. After checking his polling stream, he was accompanied by his mother to cast his vote.

Wong said he had been looking forward to polling day and was excited to vote for the first time.

"I was looking forward to voting," he said after casting his ballot.

As a visually impaired voter, Wong said he told his mother which candidate he wanted to vote for, and she marked the ballot paper on his behalf.

He described the voting process as smooth and said he was happy to have fulfilled his responsibility as a voter.

"I feel happy," he said.

Wong also praised the arrangements at the polling centre, where voters with disabilities were given access to a dedicated lane and priority to vote.

He said the facilities and assistance provided ensured the entire voting process went smoothly.
