Dr Wee calls for probe, removal of social media post spreading fake news about MCA

JOHOR BARU: MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong has filed a report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) over an allegedly defamatory social media post that spread fake news about the party.

He urged MCMC to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation and remove the defamatory content, which claimed that MCA does not want Barisan Nasional to work with PAS for Malay Muslims.

"When did I ever say such a thing? Go ahead and publish the full recording if I really made those remarks," he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (July 5).

"By all means, campaign and engage in politics but do not stoop so low as to resort to slander and falsehoods."

Dr Wee said the party upholds freedom of speech and freedom of the media but that does not extend to defamation and fake news.

"Besides hoping for a thorough and transparent investigation, I hope the defamatory content will be removed and its circulation stopped immediately," he added.
