KUALA LUMPUR: The police report on the bullying case involving Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) students is still pending, says Mara chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki.
Previously, Asyraf said six Form Five students suspected of involvement in the bullying incident would be expelled if found guilty. In a social media post on June 28, he said the students had been remanded for two days to assist investigations.
He also instructed Mara's Secondary Education Division and the MRSM administration to convene the college disciplinary committee within 24 hours to determine whether the students had breached disciplinary rules.
"Mara will not compromise with any form of bullying or with senior students taking matters into their own hands under the pretext of 'disciplining' junior students," he added.
As part of efforts to strengthen student discipline, he told the media Tuesday (June 30) that the duties of full-time wardens, who are all military veterans, at eight selected MRSM would begin Wednesday (July 1).
“There will be two men and two women at each selected MRSM. And starting January next year, all 58 MRSM nationwide will have full-time wardens recruited from former soldiers,” he said during a press conference at the MARA Educator Awards 2026 in Kuala Lumpur.
He said the move is intended to ease the burden on teachers, who are often required to juggle teaching responsibilities with warden duties.
"These candidates retired from military service at around 35 years old and were trained with a high level of discipline. We want to give those with good service records an opportunity to continue serving because this role requires firmness," he said.
Asyraf added that the selection process is being carried out in collaboration with the Malaysian Armed Forces, with candidates' service records carefully reviewed.
"We also work with the Social Welfare Department (JKM) to ensure there are no negative records, so they can perform well once appointed," he said.
“Hopefully, we will no longer hear issues related to discipline, especially bullying, which overwhelms our feelings when our children are involved in actions that will not help them to be useful leaders of the future,” he said during the MARA Educator Awards 2026.
