PETALING JAYA: Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) tests have confirmed the identities of the two university students who were killed in the crash on the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE) on Saturday (June 27), with their bodies handed over to their families on Sunday evening.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said DNA samples were sent to the Chemistry Department in Petaling Jaya at 8am on Sunday (June 28) for analysis.
"The results were obtained at 4.30pm on the same day. The analysis confirmed that the DNA profiles of both victims matched those of their respective parents.
"Following this, the bodies were released to their families at 6.30pm," he said when contacted on Monday (June 29).
Previously, ACP Mohd Zamzuri said the statement of the 20-year-old Singaporean passenger who survived the crash had been recorded, while the vehicle involved in the incident would be sent to Puspakom for inspection to assist investigations.
In the 5.10am incident on Saturday, the car is believed to have been travelling at high speed before the driver lost control, causing it to veer off the road and burst into flames.
The vehicle, driven by a 22-year-old man, is believed to have crashed into the road divider along the left side of the expressway while travelling from Jalan Duta towards Selayang.
