JOHOR BARU: It is better to have a 'recycled' candidate with a proven track record than one who moves from one constituency to another.
Umno supreme council member Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed said voters in the Johor election should choose candidates who have served the people well.
He said this should apply even if they are labelled as 'recycled' candidates.
"They (Pakatan Harapan) are also fielding 'recycled' candidates, but their candidates are not known by the local community," he said.
"After winning one term, they move them to another place because they have no real intention of serving the people. They keep changing candidates," he added.
"We may be fielding 'recycled' candidates, but at least ours are influential people who are well known and have earned the people's trust to continue serving the community."
"So which is better? A 'recycled' candidate who pays attention to the people's issues in the constituency, or one who keeps moving from one seat to another?" he said.
He said this to reporters when met during a meet-and-greet session with voters at the Bukit Saujana flats here on Sunday (June 28).
Also present were Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, MCA Wanita chief Datuk Wong You Fong, and Barisan Nasional candidate for the Tiram seat B. Pannir Selvam.
Nur Jazlan said that Pakatan leaders who move from one constituency to another come across as acting out of self-interest.
He said they did not seem to be prioritising the people's welfare.
"They field candidates to win elections and then transfer them elsewhere. It seems as though they are only interested in increasing their pension," he said.
He also noted that some of the candidates Pakatan have fielded are those who have previously lost in another seat and are now contesting elsewhere.
Nur Jazlan said this when asked to comment about talks of Barisan fielding "recycled candidates" in the ongoing Johor election.
