Cops approve 26 campaign permits for Johor polls

JOHOR BARU: Police have approved 26 campaign and ceramah permits for the 16th Johor state election so far.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad said the approved permits were issued as of Saturday (June 27).

"We expect more applications for campaigning activities to be submitted in the two-week campaigning period," he said.

"I also hope all political parties and individuals involved in the state election will conduct their campaigns responsibly," he said when met by reporters outside SMK Bandar Dato Onn, the nomination centre for the Puteri Wangsa state seat.

He said action would be taken against those who violate the law.

He reminded all parties that the official campaign period would end at 11.59pm on July 10, ahead of polling day on July 11.

Comm Ab Rahaman added that the nomination process for the Johor state election proceeded smoothly without any untoward incidents as nominations closed at 10am.

"Overall, the process went well at all 56 nomination centres statewide. We deployed 4,832 police personnel to ensure everything ran smoothly," he said.

He added that 437 traffic police personnel were deployed to manage traffic flow at all nomination centres, especially in areas affected by temporary road closures.

Polling day for the Johor state election is set for July 11 and early voting will be held on July 7.
