THE death of a pregnant woman and her unborn baby during delivery at a private hospital has resulted in a siege of the facility by her family and relatives, Makkal Osai reported.

D. Renuka Devi, 26, had been induced for delivery at the hospital in Sivakasi city in Tamil Nadu, India, when she suddenly felt unwell and collapsed.

Despite desperate attempts to save her, she and the unborn child tragically died shortly after.

When the family received the news, they accused the doctors and the hospital of negligence.

Soon, the woman’s relatives began arriving at the hospital and arguing with the staff.

Eventually, they staged a sit-in protest at the hospital, demanding that the doctors responsible face criminal charges and for the family to be compensated.

The police were eventually mobilised to maintain order while officers negotiated with the family to end the protest.

Renuka’s body has been sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
