PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has successfully undergone surgery to treat an abdominal hernia with the Prime Minister now under medical observation by his team of medical specialists.
The head of the Prime Minister’s medical team, Datuk Dr Asri Ranga Abdullah Ramaiah, said Anwar had undergone an elective laparoscopic surgical procedure to treat the paraumbilical hernia.
“The procedure was carried out smoothly under the care of a team of medical specialists.
“He is currently undergoing physiotherapy and remains under close monitoring by the medical team to ensure a smooth recovery process," Dr Asri said in a statement posted on Anwar’s official Facebook page on Monday (Aug 10).
Anwar was previously revealed to be undergoing medical examinations and procedures as prescribed by his medical team, in an earlier statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday.
While the earlier statement did not disclose details about the nature of the examinations or procedures being carried out, it said Anwar is expected to remain under medical observation for at least two days.
