GEORGE TOWN: A couple’s drug processing and distribution hub operations came to an abrupt end when police raided their condominium unit.

Besides arresting the duo, police also seized narcotics worth RM9.7mil. In that haul was 62.6kg of MDMA powder, 3.06kg of ketamine, 700 Erimin 5 pills, 1,630 ecstasy pills and 304g of liquid methamphetamine.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Dennis Lim Kwang Keng said the man, aged 35, and woman, 40, were arrested by the state Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department last Friday afternoon.

He said the operation began with the arrest of the man at the parking area of the condominium in Butterworth, with MDMA powder found in his car.

Acting on information from the suspect, police raided the condominium unit and arrested the woman.

Police also seized equipment believed to have been used in the processing operation.

“Investigations showed the syndicate had been active since January,” Comm Lim told reporters during his maiden press conference as Penang CPO yesterday.

He said urine tests on the suspects were negative for drugs but said they both have a criminal record.

Police also seized RM2,300 from them under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988.

The suspects have been remanded until June 26 to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
