Retired lecturer's legacy lives on: Organ donation saves five lives

PETALING JAYA: A retired lecturer’s final wish was fulfilled when her organs and tissues were donated to help save and transform the lives of at least five patients after she was declared brain-dead.

In a Facebook post, Sungai Buloh Hospital said the donation took place on Sunday (June 21) after her children honoured the pledge made by Normah Sabar, 72, to become an organ donor.

“During her lifetime, she educated the nation’s children. In her final breath, she continued to serve,” the hospital said in the post.

It described Normah as an extraordinary woman whose commitment to organ donation was fulfilled by her loved ones, who honoured her wishes following her death.

The hospital said the donated organs and tissues would help save and improve the lives of at least five patients awaiting transplants.

The case also marked a new milestone in collaboration between the Health Ministry and Higher Education Ministry, with Universiti Malaya’s hepatobiliary surgery team working alongside medical personnel from Sungai Buloh Hospital during the organ retrieval process.

The hospital expressed its appreciation to Normah’s family for fulfilling her final wish and described the donation as an invaluable gift that would bring hope to others in need.

The tribute drew an outpouring of condolences and admiration from social media users, many describing Normah’s final act as a lasting legacy of kindness and selflessness.

Some social media users also offered prayers for her family and expressed hope that her donation would inspire more Malaysians to pledge their organs and tissues to help those in need.
