Bersatu objects to Parti Cinta Malaysia’s admission into PN, cites irregularities

PETALING JAYA: Bersatu had objected to Parti Cinta Malaysia's admission into Perikatan Nasional, says Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

The Bersatu vice-president also cited procedural irregularities in Parti Cinta Malaysia’s application to join Perikatan as one of the reasons for its objection.

“Bersatu representatives also strongly objected to the insistence by the Perikatan Nasional chairman that Parti Cinta Malaysia be admitted as a member of Perikatan,” he said in a statement on Tuesday(June 23).

Parti Cinta Malaysia has been rebranded into Parti Wawasan Negara, which is led by former Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin.

Ahmad Faizal said Bersatu did not favour admitting Parti Cinta Malaysia into Perikatan because the coalition was already facing difficulties among its component parties following PAS’s decision to sever its relationship with Bersatu.

“As these issues remain unresolved, admitting a new party led by former Bersatu members who have been expelled would only add to Perikatan’s internal difficulties,” he said.

He added that Parti Cinta Malaysia’s application to join Perikatan Nasional was procedurally irregular.

“The application was submitted by Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah in his capacity as secretary-general of Parti Cinta Malaysia. However, an official review found that the current secretary-general of Parti Cinta Malaysia for the 2026–2027 term is Yeo Kwee Kwang,” he said.

Citing a letter from the Registrar of Societies(ROS) dated June 22, he said several documents submitted by the secretary-general of Perikatan were incomplete and unsigned.

“Accordingly, pursuant to Section 14(2) of the Societies Act 1966, the ROS has requested Perikatan to furnish certain information within seven days from the date of the letter. The ROS also reserves the right to defer consideration of the acceptance of the record of the Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council leadership until all outstanding matters have been resolved,” he said.

As such, he said the matter was raised at the Perikatan Supreme Council meeting on Monday.

He said it was previously agreed that the meeting should be postponed while waiting for feedback from ROS.

“However, the meeting nevertheless proceeded, and this may be contrary to the ROS’s intention to ensure that all administrative and management affairs of the coalition are conducted in accordance with the provisions of the Perikatan Nasional Constitution, the Societies Act 1966, and any regulations currently in force,” he said.

As for the Johor state polls, he said Bersatu President Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had aired the party’s position on the constituencies it will be focusing on and emphasised that the party contests under the Perikatan logo.

“Bersatu’s position was agreed to by the Perikatan Chairman. Accordingly, Bersatu will submit the list of Johor State Assembly constituencies it intends to contest for the preparation of authorisation letters and permission letters for the use of the Perikatan symbol,” he said.

He said that as the founding party of Perikatan, Bersatu will ensure that all affairs related to the administration, management and activities of Perikatan are conducted according to the coalition’s constitution and in compliance with the Societies Act 1966 and other regulations.

On Monday, Perikatan announced that both Parti Cinta Malaysia and Pejuang had been admitted into its fold.

Earlier, Parti Wawasan Negara’s secretary-general, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah, explained that the party had written to join Perikatan under the Parti Cinta Malaysia name.

“We conducted our Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) on June 20, where we decided on a new name, that is Parti Wawasan Negara (Wawasan Negara) and elected a new leadership. Now awaiting confirmation from the Registrar of Societies (ROS). After the EGM, we wrote to Perikatan applying to be a component party. We wrote as Parti Cinta Malaysia because we are awaiting confirmation from ROS and informed them that we are now named Wawasan Negara,” he said when contacted.

Hamzah officially announced the formation of Wawasan Negara during the Reset Convention in Tanah Merah, Kelantan, on June 13, after being expelled from Bersatu in February.
