KUALA LUMPUR: The recommendations of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on Tabung Haji will be taken into account in the amendments to the Tabung Haji Act 1995 (Act 535), says Dr Zulkifli Hasan.
“All the RCI's recommendations have been studied for action to be taken in relation to the proposed amendments to the Act,” the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) said during his briefing on the RCI findings in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday(Aug 11).
Zulkifli said this includes matters related to the framework as well as empowering the Securities Commission to monitor investments and management of Tabung Haji Funds.
“A task force chaired by the Chairman of Tabung Haji has been formed. The task force members include the Bank Negara Governor and the Securities Commission’s Chairman, and they will look into this matter,” he added.
He said the task force proposed that the Securities Commission regulate investment and fund matters, while his ministry will manage Hajj matters.
He said further details will be given to the cabinet for further consideration.
“To ensure that the issues raised by the RCI do not recur, clear provisions will be in the proposed amendments, including accounting standards and penalties for financial misreporting will be included in line with the proposals of the RCI,” he said.
The Dewan Rakyat is holding a special sitting to debate the findings of the RCI, which was released on July 29.
