Over 800 cases uncovered in enforcement against subsidy violations

PUTRAJAYA: Enforcement efforts under targeted subsidy mechanisms have uncovered 869 cases involving fuel and subsidised goods nationwide.

Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali said 71,601 inspections and enforcement operations were carried out between March 16 and Sunday (June 21) under Ops Tiris 4.0 through inter-agency cooperation.

“Of that total, 869 cases were detected nationwide, with 554 involving fuel and subsidised goods. Of the 554 cases, 291 were in Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan,” he said.

He also said the implementation of targeted subsidies has helped reduce subsidised fuel leakages, despite several areas still needing to be strengthened.

"Although it may not be able to fully close all leakages, the subsidy mechanism through the use of MyKad and the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) serves as a risk management measure to ensure subsidies are channelled to the intended groups and to reduce the misuse of subsidised fuel," he said.
