Biker loses control, gets hit by lorry on MRR2

AMPANG JAYA: A motorcyclist was killed after he reportedly lost control while attempting to overtake on the left side of the road before falling and being run over by a tanker lorry near Klang Gate here on Monday (June 22).

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Khairul Anuar Khalid said the fatal accident on the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) occurred at about 7.20am and involved a tanker lorry and a motorcycle travelling from Gombak towards Ampang.

Initial investigations found that the motorcyclist was believed to have been overtaking on the left side of the road when he lost control of the motorcycle and fell.

“He was then run over by the rear left tyre of the tanker lorry,” he said in a statement on Monday.

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene by personnel from Hospital Ampang, he added.

ACP Khairul Anuar said the case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He added that the section provides for a jail term of between five and 10 years and a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000 upon conviction.

For a second or subsequent conviction, offenders face a jail term of between 10 and 15 years and a fine ranging from RM50,000 to RM100,000, he said.
