JPJ seized 145 luxury cars in Negri since January

SEREMBAN: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) have seized 145 luxury models in Negri Sembilan so far this year after its owners were found to have violated laws such as failing to get insurance coverage or to pay road tax.

State JPJ director Jasyindar Singh Sidhu said among the vehicles seized during "Operasi Luxury" since January were BMW, Lexus, Porsche, Mercedes Benz and Toyota Alphard models.

"During the period, we also seized seven luxury models which were driven by nationals from countries like China, Pakistan and Bangladesh and one being driven by a UNHCR card holder.

"We view the non-compliance of JPJ laws seriously and stern action would be taken against the offenders," he said in a statement.

Some of the drivers of the seized vehicles were found to have made illegal modifications to their vehicles or had no valid driving license.

Jasyindar said JPJ would continue conducting such operations to ensure vehicle owners complied with the law.

"The state JPJ will increase the frequency and intensity of enforcement operations, particularly involving luxury vehicles, through patrols, roadblocks and technical inspections to ensure that compliance with road traffic laws remains at the highest level," he said.

He also reminded owners of luxury models that the value or status of their vehicle would not grant them any immunity from legal action.
