Johor polls: Muda to announce candidates this weekend, says election director

JOHOR BARU: Muda will announce its candidates for the Johor state election this weekend, says its election director for the Johor polls.

Rasid Abu Bakar said the announcement would mark the beginning of the next phase of Muda's preparations for the state election following the completion of its candidate assessment and selection process.

"The party has undergone a comprehensive candidate selection process to ensure that those chosen possess integrity, leadership capabilities, commitment to the party's struggle and a readiness to serve the people.

"The line-up of candidates to be announced also reflects Muda's commitment to highlighting a new generation of leaders who are courageous, credible and understand the challenges faced by the people of Johor today," he said in a statement on Thursday (June 18).

He added that details on the venue, time and programme for the candidate announcement would be revealed in the coming days.

Rasid said the state election would provide an opportunity for Johoreans to determine the state's future direction, particularly on issues that directly affect their daily lives.

"Muda believes that the people of Johor deserve a choice that offers fresh ideas, clean politics and leadership that is willing to listen to and champion the interests of the people," he said.

The dissolution of the Johor state assembly was announced by Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi on June 1, following the consent of Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

The Election Commission has set July 11 as the polling day, with Nomination Day on June 27 and early voting on July 7.
