Sarawak polls: GPS' preparations going smoothly, says Uggah

KUCHING: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) does not anticipate major issues in its preparations for the coming Sarawak state election, says caretaker Deputy Premier Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas.

He said the four-party coalition would stick to its tried-and-tested template for the polls.

"(There are) no major issues. We are all very experienced.

"We will follow our previous template, which gave us a good victory, and this time we will do even better," he said after chairing a GPS election operations committee meeting at Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) headquarters here on Tuesday (Nov 3).

GPS, which comprises PBB, Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), won 76 of the 82 seats in the last state election in 2021.

It will contest all 82 seats again in the coming polls.

Uggah said the meeting discussed preparations to face the election, including coordinating the secretariat, publicity, communication and VIP visits.

"This is our normal operation.

"Every time there is an election we will get ready in all aspects so that when it comes we will be well prepared," he said.

He added that the preliminary preparations were going smoothly.

"You can see that the meeting was very short, it finished in half an hour," he joked.

The Sarawak Legislative Assembly was dissolved on Oct 26, paving the way for the 13th state election.

The Election Commission will meet on Friday (Nov 6) to discuss key dates for the polls, including nomination and polling days.
