PETALING JAYA: Students must learn to verify the accuracy of information they access through digital platforms rather than accepting everything they read online, says Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
While encouraging students to embrace technology, he cautioned that digital platforms could expose users to false and misleading information.
“We must always remember that the information we see and read needs to be checked to ensure it is true," he said at the launch of the Sekolahku portal, a centralised platform that brings together information on schools nationwide, on Tuesday (Nov 3).
On Sekolahku, Gobind said the portal, developed through a collaboration between the Digital Ministry and Education Ministry, aims to make school information more accessible to parents and the public.
He said parents previously had to visit individual school websites or refer to various sources to obtain information about schools.
He added that the Sekolahku portal is live and accessible to the public.
“The initiative is intended to cover schools nationwide, including rural schools, to ensure none were left out,” he said.
Gobind estimated that the platform, developed with the Education Ministry and GovTech Malaysia, involved approximately 10,000 schools.
He said without a centralised portal, the country could end up with thousands of separate platforms.
