A WOMAN in Tamil Nadu poisoned her toddler with pesticide because he was getting in the way of her being with her boyfriend, Malaysia Nanban reported.
Lalitha, 23, from Salem, got married six years ago and has two sons, aged five and 18 months.
About 10 months ago, the woman separated from her husband and returned to her mother’s house with her toddler, while the older boy stayed with the father.
In early April, the mother rushed the toddler to the hospital claiming he was having seizures, but the boy died soon after.
Doctors reported the death as suspicious, and the authorities ordered an autopsy.
When the autopsy results revealed that the toddler had died of pesticide poisoning, the police located Lalitha and arrested her.
During questioning, Lalitha confessed that she had started dating a man from the same town.
Thinking that having a young child would get in the way of her love life, she decided to poison the boy and claim he had died of seizures.
