
IPOH: Twenty-six residents affected by rising floodwaters were safely evacuated after continuous heavy rain triggered flooding in Kampung Batu 25 on Jalan Trong near Taiping on Sunday (June 14) evening.
The Perak Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 5.56pm before personnel from the Trong Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the scene.
“Floodwaters in the village rose to about 0.6m, affecting several homes and leaving 26 residents stranded in the inundated area.
“Firefighters conducted an initial assessment upon arrival at 6.15pm before commencing evacuation efforts.
“Personnel assisted the victims out of the flooded area and ensured they were transferred safely to the temporary relief centre at SK Batu Hampar,” he said in a statement Monday (June 15).
The evacuation operation involved collaboration between multiple agencies, including the police, the Civil Defence Force, the Social Welfare Department, and the Village Development and Security Committee.
The situation was brought under control at 6.20pm, while the operation concluded at 12.35am on Monday.
All 26 victims were reported safe, with no injuries or fatalities recorded.
Over at Pantai Remis in Manjung, he said 17 residents from three villages were evacuated to safety after continuous rain.
Sabarodzi said the flooding affected Kampung Kilang, Kampung Paya Ara and Kampung Anggerik, where water levels rose to about two feet.
“The department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 10.28pm on Sunday and dispatched a team from the Pantai Remis Fire and Rescue Station to the scene.
“Firefighters arrived at the affected area at 10.49pm, approximately 27km from the station, and conducted an initial assessment before commencing rescue operations.
“A total of 17 victims were successfully evacuated from the flooded areas and transferred safely to the temporary evacuation centre at SK Beruas,” he said.
